Nastia Liukin recently wrapped up an action-packed summer tour introducing her new clothing line, Supergirl by Nastia in JCPenney stores across the U.S.

Hundreds of fans were at hand to greet Nastia, who was equally excited to host the events, “It was so much fun to interact with all of the girls!” Attendees were also treated to gymastic exhibitions, dance performances, tumbling classes, and fashion presentations of the fun new collection which includes active fleece, dresses and tunics, knit pants, signature Supergirl tees, dancewear, fashion leggings, shrug tops and more.

Five-time Olympic medalist and ambassador of female empowerment Nastia Liukin took time off from promoting her new fashion line, Supergirl by Nastia, to be honored by the Girl Scouts of the USA at an investiture ceremony held at Planet Hollywood in New York City’s Times Square. Liukin was named an official lifetime member of the storied organization for girls.

An Olympic all-around champion and one of the most decorated American gymnasts in the history of the sport, Nastia Liukin believes that with hard work and commitment to a dream, anything is possible. Liukin embraces being a mentor and a positive role model to girls.

“I feel so privileged to be recognized by the Girl Scouts. The investiture ceremony is a time-honored tradition, which welcomes new girls into Scouting and I am thrilled that I can consider myself part of this wonderful group,” said Liukin.

“We are so pleased that Nastia joined the Girl Scouts. For the past 98 years, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience continues to empower girls to become leaders,” said Lalitha Sarma, Girl Scout Council of Greater New York.

As part of her ongoing commitment to female empowerment, Liukin recently teamed up with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and JCPenney for Supergirl by Nastia, a collection featuring trend-right, affordable apparel that encourages a message of empowerment, creativity, strength, intelligence and independence—the symbolic attributes and S-Shield of Supergirl, the iconic DC Comics super heroine. Created for today’s 4-12-year-old girls, the collection will be available exclusively at JCPenney – in stores and on jcp.com – beginning July 20, just in time for the back-to-school season.

“The Girl Scouts and I share the same message of female empowerment, which I look forward to spreading to girls and young women everywhere with Supergirl by Nastia,” added Liukin.

As part of the investiture ceremony, the Girl Scouts attending the special event received a Supergirl patch to be added to their regalia.

Courtney Conlogue Wins ASP 6 Star

Supergirl Amabassador Courtney Conlogue claimed victory at the ASP 6-STAR Cabreiroa Surfing Girls Competition on August 28th. Pantin, Spain was the setting of clean 2-3ft waves and intense maneuvers from all its international competitors. In the end, Courtney edged out Laura Enever (AUS) in a 35-minute final. The 2009 Supergirl Pro Junior winner now ranks third in the ASP Women’s World Tour. Congratulations Courtney!

2010 Supergirl Jam Winners Announced

Warner Bros. Consumer Products’ 4th Annual Supergirl Jam’s Skateboard Street, Snowboard Rail Jam and Inline Skating Best Trick competitions played before thousands of fans along the Venice Beach boardwalk. At day’s end, Alexis Sablone (New York, NY), Danyale Patterson (Anchorage, AK) and Fallon Heffernan (Jacksonville Beach, FL) topped the competition as champions of the skateboard, snowboard and inline contests, respectively.

In addition to the competitive action, the day held many exciting activities. Olympic gold medalist and World Champion Nastia Liukin made a special appearance to promote Supergirl by Nastia, available exclusively at WBCP’s retail partner JCPenney. Additionally, stars of the new Warner Bros. Television series Hellcats, Aly Michalka and Robbie Jones, and motocross star of MTV’s Nitro Circus, Jolene Van Vugt made personal appearances at the action sports industry’s largest all-female competition and lifestyle festival.

The 2010 Supergirl Jam event series will be broadcast nationally in November as part of event producer ASA Entertainment’s action sports block on Fox Sports Net and FUEL TV.

Bio
“No nerves, just amp.” The words spoken by Kelly Slater in the surf movie Black and White are the words to live by for 18-yearold Coco Ho. The heiress to a surfing legacy, Coco is among the new generation of young surfers taking the women’s professional surfing circuit by storm.

To say she was destined to surfing greatness is an understatement, and she is well on her way.

She is the daughter of Michael Ho and the niece of Derek Ho, both surfing legends, and the younger sister of up-and-comer Mason Ho. “I was always around the contest scene (like the Triple Crown) when I was young hearing my Dad and Uncle Derek’s name on the loud speaker. I didn’t know how big they really were until I started getting into the sport.”

She began surfing at the tender age of 7 when she noticed her Dad spending time with her older brother in the water. “After trying I was obsessed and had my dad working hard keeping up!” Coco soon started competing in NSSA regional and national events, as well as local surfing competitions, and has since accumulated an impressive list of accolades. The past three years have been particularly prodigious.
In 2007, she won the VQS Championship, placed second in the

Open Women’s division of the NSSA Nationals, and won the Trials for the ASP Women’s World Tour stop at her home break at Sunset Beach. She went on to make it into the quarterfinals of the event, surfing against the world’s best, and was named the Triple Crown’s “Rookie of the Year,“ topping her list of shining moments.

The following year, in 2008, Coco built upon her 2007 successes even further. She made the finals of the Open Women’s division at the NSSA Nationals, finished runner up at the Billabong Junior in Sunset Beach, runner up at the ASP WQS 6-Star US Open in Huntington Beach while simultaneously winning the event’s Supergirl Junior Pro which ran concurrently. In the ASP WQS 4-Star Rio International Brasil, she claimed third, at the ASP WQS 5-Star Margaret River Pro, she took fifth, and scored a fourth place finish at the ASP WQS 6-Star Reef Hawaiian Pro.

2008 also provided another milestone when she was recognized as the fifth most popular women’s surfer at the prestigious Surfer Poll
Awards alongside some of the her friends and idols including Soifa Mulanovich, Stephanie Gilmore, Carissa Moore and Layne Beachley.

2009 was a banner year for Coco! She won her first WCT event in Portugal, ranked # 4 in the world and took the prestigious Rookie of the Year award. Clearly there’s more to come!

Coco Ho Wins 2010 Supergirl Pro Junior

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (August 14, 2010) – In true Supergirl style, Coco Ho (Oahu, HI) surfed over the competition in Oceanside, California today to win the 3rd Annual Supergirl Pro Junior. Sixteen of the world’s best 20-and-under female surfers took to the waves to battle for the richest purse in ASP Women’s Pro Junior history, with Ho claiming the $10,000 top prize and her second Supergirl Pro Junior title. Malia Manuel (Kauai, HI), Lakey Peterson (Santa Barbara, CA) and Leila Hurst (Kauai, HI) captured second, third and fourth place, respectively.

Draped in the winner’s Supergirl cape, Ho said, “I’m so stoked. Now I have one cape for each arm. The Supergirl [Pro Junior] is the most fun event ever!”

An ASP Grade-4 surfing contest, the Supergirl Pro Junior is the second event in this year’s Supergirl Jam, the action sports industry’s only large-scale, all-female competition and lifestyle event designed to promote female empowerment, strength and independence. The first event, the Supergirl Am Jam, which honored female amateur skateboarders, occurred on June 30 at Skatelab, in Simi Valley, California.

Ho was the first Supergirl Pro Junior champion, winning the title in 2008 in Huntington Beach, California. She entered today’s competition hoping for a second win, but after fighting a cold all week and sizing up her competition, she knew it was going to be a hard fought battle.

“Malia [Manuel] started out the finals so strong, I thought she had it in the bag,” said Ho. “I’m so glad I got a few good waves.”

Manuel hit the water and didn’t waste any time catching some early waves, recording an 8.00 and 7.17 early on to claim the top spot. Her lead held until nearly the mid-point of the 30-minute heat, then Ho hit back-to-back waves of 7.53 and 8.73 – the highest score of the heat – to take the lead. Ho would stay at the top until the end, despite a late charge from Manuel. Needing an 8.27 to take reclaim first place, Manuel grabbed a late wave and rode it to the shore, but was only able to score a solid 6.67. For the second year in a row, she claimed the second place silver medal.

“The girls were really rippin’ today,” said Manuel. “Thanks to Supergirl for this opportunity. If you invite me back next year, I’m here!”

A first year addition to the competition was the Supergirl Shootout, two 10-minute heats designed for the remaining field to compete in an ‘expression session’ for a total of $1000. Carissa Moore (Honolulu, HI), the recent 2010 U.S. Open Women’s Champion, and Amy Nicholl (Drexel Hill, PA) each won $500, recording the highest scoring wave in the special events.

The next stop for the Supergirl Jam event series will be Venice Beach, California, on August 22. This event will feature the Snowboard Rail Jam, Skateboard Street and Inline Best Trick competitions starting at 12:30 p.m. All the action will be webcast on a host of major web sites including FoxSports.com, GrindTV.com, Supergirl.com and Supergirljam.com, the official online destination for the 2010 Supergirl Jam.
