Supergirl first appeared in ACTION COMICS #252 (February 1959).
Superman’s cousin from the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El arrived on Earth as a teenager. Kara wears a costume inspired by her cousin as the young heroine-in-training Supergirl.
Supergirl might not be as strong as Superman, but as Superman’s younger cousin she’s got plenty of attitude and style. She’s the new kid on the planet with extraordinary strength and skill. Cool, hip and totally independent…Supergirl’s here to make things better for Earth girls.
In the CW Network’s hit series Smallville, Supegirl is portrayed by actress Laura Vandervoort. She is introduced in the 7th season as Clark Kent’s cousin Kara. The following season she leaves Earth to find the lost Kryptonian city of Kandor. Supergirl will make a return in the series’ 10th and final season.
Call it cool, call it attitude, but a girl doesn’t have to be from Planet Krypton to be a Supergirl. There is a Supergirl inside every girl and the galaxy is her playground.
